Robert’s poor father, his biological father, did not consider money important. He appreciated the traditional things that most people value, good education, security, a beautiful home, a modest life.

Robert’s wealthy father, the father of his best friend, believed that money was extremely important. He felt that all the things that were most dear to him in life would not be possible if he did not have money.

As a child, Robert took into account both points of view to decide what he considered money. The fact is that most people never get that far. Either they blindly believe in everything they are taught about money, or they rebel against what they have been taught.

Thus, wealthy children could deny the value of money and try to live a life in poverty. And poor children may dislike the fact that they grew up without money, making it the most important thing in their lives.

Rich dad taught that there are always two sides to a medal, and this is where most people stop. But as he told Robert, there is another side of a coin that most people do not pay attention to. This is the edge of the medal. Most often, the truth is not on one side or the other of the coin, but on the edge…the point in the middle the points.

In your opinion, what is the purpose of money?

Most people don’t take the time to sit down and find out what they really think about money. For some, money is the root of all ills that must be avoided at all costs, which are not talked about and demonized. People who make money are the enemy. It’s the rich versus the poor.

For others, money is everything. They will sacrifice their friends, family and integrity to get it. It’s a world of dog-eating dogs.

For others, money is just a tool.

Whether good or bad, our understanding of money often shapes our lives. And our understanding of money is often reached on to us from an early age, received without a critical eye and lived invisibly. For this reason, money often rules us in a way that we cannot understand, because we do not really understand money and how it works.

So, if you want to live a rich and full life, one of the most important things you can do is to define for yourself what you believe about money and to arrange your life appropriately. It doesn’t matter what answer you have, but the most important thing is to define what you think about money and understand why you believe in it.

The money is evil…so don’t you need that?

The poor father firmly believed that the love of money is bad, and excessive profits mean that you are greedy.

As the head of Hawaii’s school system, he was embarrassed when newspapers published how much he earned because he felt overcompensated compared to the teachers who worked for him. He was a good, honest and hardworking man who did his best to defend his view that money is not important in life.

The highly educated but poor father constantly said:

  • “Money doesn’t interest me that much.”
  • “I will never be rich.”
  • “I can’t afford it.”
  • “Investing is peril.”
  • “Money is not everything.”

Because the poor father didn’t think money was a good thing, he never took the time to learn about money or use it. Unfortunately, when he was older and lost his job in the government, he tried to make ends meet with bad investments. On his expired on bed, he lamented not giving anything more to his children. They were all fine financially and tried to calm his mind, but his contrition was strong and difficult to overcome.
